“The BC 1 Call Board of Directors announces the well-deserved retirement of Chris Hyland. We are also delighted to welcome Donna Grant as the organization’s new President,” says Daren Sanders, BC 1 Call Board Chair. Past President Chris Hyland is sincerely thanked for 28 years of exceptional service to BC 1 Call and will assist with the transition.

A Huge “Thank You!” To Chris Hyland!

BC 1 Call turned 30 this year, and for 28 of those years, Chris has been a staunch champion of the mission and values of the organization. Throughout his long career in the energy sector, Chris worked passionately to protect underground infrastructure and promote safety at the workplace and in communities around the province. In addition, Chris provided leadership to BC 1 Call as a Board member and Board Chair. Since 2019, in his capacity as President of BC 1 Call, Chris presided over spectacular growth in brand awareness and use of BC 1 Call, contributing to the avoidance of preventable damage and safety incidents, and the disruption of critical services delivered through members’ infrastructure.

When asked about his proudest accomplishment, Chris is quick to highlight “the growth of the membership from fewer than 10 members 28 years ago, to over 365 today. We’re not a true One Call until all owners of underground infrastructure become members, but we have made great strides in that direction.”

What’s in store for Chris in retirement? “More of the good things,” he says. “Time with friends and family, time in the sun any month of the year I feel like it, and time on the golf course, just to name a few.”

“The Board is grateful for Chris’ many contributions over the years to make the organization what it is today,” says Daren Sanders. “The Board and staff of BC 1 Call, wish Chris and his wife Marilyn the very best of years ahead!”
